Is it better for MAKITA batteries to be completely discharged before charging?

No. Just the opposite, you should stop using a MAKITA cordless drill battery as soon as you feel a substantial decrease in power from the tool. Completely running down a battery may damage the MAKITA battery. Do not tape trigger to run down the MAKITA battery.It is important to condition fully discharge and then fully charge the battery every two to three weeks.
